Different perspectives

One of the biggest challenges I’ve personally felt during the last twelve months has been talking to fewer people and talking less. Mostly as a result of being able to spend limited time with limited people, so conversations have been shorter or groups smaller, and there’s been less opportunity to meet up with friends, make new friends, and chew the fat about anything and everything.

When we don’t talk, thoughts tend to run around in our heads and we can then ruminate on them which leads to negative thought patterns and then negative feelings. Often we limit ourselves by coming to conclusions quickly, based on the limits of those thoughts. By talking to others we’re often challenged to see different perspectives. By hearing other’s stories we can see alternative explanations in our own stories.

Not everyone will make you see a different perspective but it’s important you seek out those that do. You don’t want a group of yes people to tell you you’re always right. Find people who help you see there’s more than one way of looking at things because there always is.
